Jackson County Special Services Cooperative is a multi-district entity working in conjunction with the schools in its service area to provide information and resources that facilitate development and delivery of educational services to students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The co-op and its associated school districts collaborate with specialists across the service area to ensure consideration for and inclusion of students with special educational needs. Staff members provide insight and guidance on issues of education, performance, and factors that influence student success.
The goal of special education is to provide students the opportunity to learn in the least restrictive environment so they can thrive to the best of their ability when they transition into adulthood. Educators and service providers collaborate to support the development and delivery of services to children with disabilities. Services may include instruction by special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, licensed professional counselors, or speech-language pathologists. Programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each student, to support development of academic, social, and emotional skills that will help students actively participate in their community. A strong partnership between schools, service providers, and students’ families contributes to student success.
